Christmas was always such a special time - going to the "big" auditorium for the annual Christmas show. And fellow classmates -it was a special time.

Comments: Well, Well! Thanks to Geno and Donna I exist. Would really enjoy being with my "old" boys and girls, but not possible this year; maybe in '09. I have lots of happy memories and anecdotes from my five years at Emerson. You kids had wonderful parents--- obviously. Happy you are doing well and hope your pains were small and manageable during the years. I went to Day and then to Warren where I taught French and Latin, went on sabbatical to the Sorbonne in Paris in '68 and got beaten up in the riot--just minding my business ;). Fled the winter and settled in LA in '79, managed a restaurant, tried real estate in the last housing collapse, and went back to my real love, teaching 6th grade in inner city. Working at McManus's and Orchard Cleaners, hanging at the corner, lower playground especially on the fourth of July, the dances at Emerson and Odd Fellows, Needham Carnival,HOJOs with those Needham boys, Dunkin Donuts and Brighams. We got into a little touble now and then, but everyone helped eah other out. I loved that part of my life, its so hard to explain to new friends what we had growing up . The love and bond we had still lives in our hearts and that is why the reunion is so successful. Lois didn't want us to ever forget the friendships we had and that is why she kept up the reunion. Hope many of them come.
Comments: I agree with the loud music but also would like to suggest that maybe some introductions could be made so that the older group will recognize some of the younger people.

Comments: Oh the memories of NUF.Although I didn't get to spend all of my teenage years there because my dad got transferred to the cape,I can honestly say, this was just about the happiest and most memorable time in my life. I was thrilled to hear from Barbara Chotkowski (Noel) last year by a surprise phone call.She mentioned the reunion to me . I hope to be able to come to the first NUF reunion this year.I am looking very forward to seeing alot of my old time buddies.I'm sure none of us have changed a bit! LOL Hope to see you there! My Dad "Harold" Springham passed away this past March and the old place was sold to a nice young couple,John & Terry Hart who have changed and up dated the old place.But the old memories of Newton UpperFalls lives on. Hobbies: Just completed a 96 mile Charity Bike Ride (Kennedy Library in Boston to The Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port - Cape Cod)for Best Buddies. Bet Biddies is an organization that creates friendships opportunities for typically developing students with students with intellectual disabilities. Best Buddies provides vocational training for individuals with intellectual disabilities and also places these individuals into jobs and provides on-site job training.
Favorite Memories: After reading Geno's memories it felt like I was following him around. How about Mike Grasso's cigars. I also ate my share of Brownie Scraps. We can't forget Dr. Zambone and how he took care of us all.

When I see Billy Corbett in Lexington we always enjoy telling our Upper Falls Stories. I am very proud to tell people that I grew up in Newton Upper Falls and what a supportive community we had. During my 37 years of teaching I have not met many students who have enjoyed the same experience that I had in "The Falls." Thanks for keeping the spirit of this wonderful community alive.
Comments: I missed the last two reunions due to travel but look forward to seeing everyone in November. My only recommendation, and I know that I am showing my age, is to keep the music low so we can all hear each other when we meet.

Favorite Memories: Growing up in the Falls was a unique experience that I would never have changed. A section of Newton, at the time, the city would have loved to given away. Walking home from Emerson School pass the patrol guards ready to report you to Ms Harney for doing anything wrong. Going by Tommy Akins Drug Store, the brownie shop where you could buy brownie scraps for a nickel a bag, Mike Grasso's cobbler shop,looking at one of the bikes he would have for sale in the window. Walking down Eliot St. pass the Quality Market seeing Sal and Bart. Going to Cuck's drug store to buy a 10 cent ice cream cone the size of a golf ball. Attending Friday night dances at the Emerson School and the Odd Fellows Hall. Forth of July at the lower playground, the food, the races, the movies, and of course the fireworks. When Newton stopped the 4th at the playground, starting our own fireworks display at the corner. Hanging around the corner waiting for something to happen. Getting one of the so-called bums to buy for us. Cruising around to Mac's, HoJo"s and back to the corner. Growing up with friends that stuck together because we were from the Falls, and remaining friends throughout the years. Thanks for the memories, Ronnie, Byron, Dickie, Billy, Arthur and the rest of the gang!!
